About the event

Between 17 September and 17 November 2020, an exhibition on "The Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe in Luxembourg" will take place at Hall du Funiculaire, Middle Station, Pfaffenthal (Luxembourg). The exhibition is organised by the European Institute of Cultural Routes (EICR), with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the Luxembourg National Railway Company (CFL).

Launched by the Council of Europe in 1987, the Cultural Routes programme is an invitation to travel and to discover the rich and diverse heritage of Europe, covering a range of different themes, from architecture and landscape to religious influences, from gastronomy and intangible heritage to the major figures of European art, music and literature. Stressing the importance of this shared European heritage for better mutual knowledge and understanding, the Cultural Routes also put into practice the values of the Council of Europe: human rights, cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and mutual exchanges across borders.

The exhibition presents the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe crossing Luxembourg and invites visitors to discover different sites of Luxembourg's cultural heritage from a European perspective, bearing witness to our common cultural heritage.

7 Cultural Routes certified by the Council of Europe are crossing Luxembourg: Santiago de Compostela Pilgrim RoutesSaint Martin of Tours RouteIter Vitis RouteEuropean Route of Historic Thermal TownsFortified Towns of the Grande RegionEuropean Route of Industrial Heritage and Liberation Route Europe. The European Association for the Preservation and Promotion of Jewish Culture and Heritage has its headquarters in Luxembourg.
