Eun-Me Ahn
Eun-Me Ahn
With 8 dancers on stage & 6 on screen
Eun-Me Ahn was born in 1963 in South Korea and has seen it transform into one of the “Four Asian dragons”, with Taiwan, Hong-Kong and Singapore. She studied in New York, explored shamanic traditions at home and developed ties with kindred spirit Pina Bausch, whose work is also featured in two programmes this season.
Grand Théâtre regulars will remember Eun-Me Ahn’s striking Dancing Grandmothers of 2018. In the new Dragons, she creates a portrait of contemporary Asia, bringing together five dancers born in different Asian countries in 2000, year of the dragon, with her Seoul-based company. What, she asks, is the future for these young dragons, in dance and in life? What will they take from each other and what will they hold on to from their own traditions?
