Luxembourg City Film Festival

Over the course of 11 days in March, the City of Luxembourg celebrates film in all its facets.

As a unique platform for discovering feature films, documentaries and shorts, as well as one-off events, the Luxembourg City Film Festival managed to attract 30,535 visitors in 2018, an impressive growth from its modest beginnings in 2011. Over the course of the Festival, alongside the screenings, audiences have the chance to meet some of the film industry’s most important figures during masterclasses, workshops, exhibitions and a wide array of other events.

Throughout more than 200 day and night-time screenings across its official and documentary competitions, and the official selection, the Luxembourg City Film Festival showcases the very best of international filmmaking, featuring European and world premieres in its programme. A selection of Luxembourgish (co-)productions offers viewers a taste of the Grand-Duchy’s diverse audio-visual creation. A considerable part of the “LuxFilmFest” is aimed at young audiences: Actors, directors and other industry professionals take part in workshops, screenings and debates particularly aimed at children and teenagers. Beyond cinema theatres, Luxembourg’s official film festival ventures into other urban spaces with exhibitions, public talks, special screenings and an extensive virtual reality pavilion. At the Festival’s conclusion, in the presence of national and international media, seven awards are presented to the films that succeeded in winning over the different juries.

Luxembourg carved out a certain renown as a shooting location for international productions and its animation studios in particular have gained acclaim in recent years. A visit of the Luxembourg City Film Festival is the perfect occasion to come and discover this hidden cinematographic gem in the heart of Europe!
