David et Jonathas

FR Après Erismena de Francesco Cavalli, Jean Bellorini revient aux Théâtres de la Ville avec une nouvelle mise en scène d’opéra, David et Jonathas, tragédie lyrique composée par Marc-Antoine Charpentier sur un livret, du père François de Paule Bretonneau. David et Jonathas est l’histoire d’une amitié inconditionnelle, décrite dans les Livres de Samuel dans l’Ancien Testament. La relecture de cette histoire par Jean Bellorini se fait à travers le regard de Saül. Devenu fou suite à la perte de son fils, et de ses multiples combats militaires, Saül, tyran contemporain déchu, est maintenant mutique et ne se défend plus de rien. Saül devient un monstre de notre temps, même si, pour Jean Bellorini, l’oeuvre rayonne également un certain idéalisme et nourrit l’espoir d’une jeunesse qui s’oppose  et qui s’impose face au pouvoir autoritaire. Comme pour Erismena, Jean Bellorini mêle opéra et théâtre dans cette tragédie qui parle de la mémoire et des traces que nous laissons. Le directeur musical Sébastien Daucé dirige son ensemble Correspondances, spécialiste du répertoire sacré français du Grand Siècle.

DE Die Freundschaft zwischen David und Jonathas wird durch Jonathas Vater Saul, den König der Israeliten, und seinen Neid auf David vor eine Zerreißprobe gestellt. Eine bevorstehende Schlacht gegen die Philister, bei denen David Zuflucht gefunden hat, entscheidet über das Schicksal aller drei. Regisseur Jean Bellorini, der bereits mit Opern- und Theaterinszenierung in Luxemburg zu Gast war, erkennt in Marc-Antoine Charpentiers Barockoper den Größenwahn gestriger und heutiger Tyrannen. Dennoch strahlt das Werk für ihn auch Idealismus aus und nährt die Hoffnung, dass sich die Jugend gegen die Macht des Bestehenden durchsetzen kann. Dirigent Sébastien Daucé und sein Ensemble Correspondances zeigen eindrucksvoll den Reichtum von Charpentier Musik und seinen präzisen Umgang mit der menschlichen Stimme.

EN Following his production of Erismena in 2019, theatre director Jean Bellorini returns  to opera with a new staging of Baroque composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s tragedy David et Jonathas. Based on a story from the Old Testament, it tells the tale of the unconditional friendship between David and Jonathas, who are forced to fight on opposite sides, and the wrath of the tyrannical Saul, warring King of the Israelites who is also Jonathas’ father. Bellorini yet again blends theatre and opera in his retelling of this story about memory and tells it from Saul’s point of view. Having gone mad following the death of his son, the fallen contemporary tyrant is now mute and has stopped defending himself, thus becoming a monster of our times. In nightmarish scenes, Bellorini presents a colourful carnival of the dead. He is inspired, however, by David’s constant search for peace and reconciliation and the hope for the future that a younger generation represents. Musical director Sébastien Daucé conducts his Ensemble Correspondances, specialists in the sacred French repertoire of the Grand Siècle.
